The Dream Continues

Day 4 Nov 5 Jeff and Alyn, founders of Healing Haiti, had a dream that continues to come true long after Alyn passed. One of these dreams is an orphanage and school called Grace Village. We had the privilege to visit the beautiful compound today. Since my last trip in July of 2013, much has changed. A new church has been built for the school and community, a state of the art medical facility was constructed caring for patients from all over the country, and new Guardian homes now house many of the orphan children. I think these Guardian homes are why God blesses Healing Haiti the way he does. Grace Village was originally designed as dorm style living where the kids could, eat, learn and play as a little orphan community. This design was absolutely incredible. Children were once apart of Hellish conditions living on the streets and being used as slaves. But now they have all their needs and wants covered. But... Healing Haiti is relentless in their mission and if they see a need for improvement, they will attack it. In this case the organization saw this dorm style living as an unnatural upbringing for the Children. To fix this, they decided to build homes for these children to live in. To each home they assigned Guardians to watch over them. A Guardian couple commits to taking care of the 5-7 children vowing to raise them in a healthy, Christian family life styles. Though the orphanage was fine the way it is, Healing Haiti still wanted better for the Children and with God's help continue to make it happen After, Grace Village we drove into town to visit with the elderly. In Haiti, the age expectancy is 58. So when a Haitian reaches the age of 80, they often out live many of their family members. These visits are such a powerful experience. Our group brought the elderly hot meals and washed their feet while putting lotion on their legs and arms. During our last visit I had the chance to put location on the kindest, most petite widow. One of our leaders and I took her hands into ours and massaged them as we sangs songs of praise with her. Her appreciation and gratitude was radiant. Tomorrow is water truck day 2, can't wait! God Bless, Scott
